Dear Ruby, Hey Sweetie!
I’m writing you today with a heavy heart, I’ve taken a few days to write you after getting some devastating news. First, I want to say I promised when I began writing these letters that I wouldn’t speak negative about your mother, so I’m choosing my words with intention.
I got a letter from your mom’s lawyer the other day, first I saw that your mom and Colby got married, I knew that was going to happen eventually and I wish them the best of luck. Then, I read on that she wants to terminate my parental rights, that Colby wants to adopt you and they want to change your last name to his. Ruby, I had to leave group and go cry in my bunk, I felt so powerless. I was so scared that I’d never get to be in your life again.
Fortunately, I have a family that would do ANYTHING for me. I have no worries at this point, I’ve been able to thwart the evil intentions at every turn so far, and that isn’t about to change now.
Your mother is so invested in using you to hurt me and has probably realized she isn’t going to be able to win our custody battle. Now, she has her lawyer grasping at straws. I was still pretty upset with that and the delay of the supreme court’s opinion, so this morning I began listening to my worship playlist and listened specifically to Jireh by Elevation Worship. I heard the words “And I will be content in every circumstance, Jireh, you are enough.” I had an epiphany of sorts, I can’t say I’m a believer and preach gospel to others if I can’t live what I say.
In that moment, God told me, “In this life you will have troubles, but I have overcome the world.” God has given me the resources (People, AI, law library, intellect) to do what needs to be done, I can count on HIM and HE will bring me joy even in this circumstance.
I’m on my way, closer than ever. I’ll fight with every fiber of my being for you because that is what love does. I miss you every minute of every day.
And remember, God made you special and He loves you very much!
Love,
Daddy
