Dear Ruby, hey sweetie!

I hope everything is going well for you out there.  If my calculations are correct you’re about to begin an endeavor on your high school career!  That is pretty exciting, I remember high school was where I finally found a group of friends I fit in with.  My “People” were generically classified as “Alternative.”  It was the punks, Seattle Grunge kids, Ska kids, Goths, skateboarders, and any other outcasts.

I hope you find people with shared interests, but I hope you don’t give up too much of who you are to be a part of that group.  Just remember that people tend to be pulled into your orbit if you’re authentic.  If you are comfortable with who you are and don’t try to “fit in” your peers will respect you, at least if they are worth being friends with.

So, Tuesday is court, hopefully this can be all resolved and I can at least talk to you on the phone.  Obviously I’m nervous, but I’m trusting God’s plan for me and for you.  In my GEO Rehabilitation program they have me taking the InsideOut Dads course again.  There was a list of things we were supposed to find out about our kids to know them better.  I was the only one who didn’t know anything besides your birthday.  I started to cry but had to hold it together.  One day I promise, I’ll be able to be the dad for you I was supposed to be.  I hope you’ll forgive me for being gone so long.

I love you more than I could ever express. And remember, God made you special and He loves you very much.

Missing you always,

Daddy
