Dear Ruby,
Hey sweetheart, I hope you’re having a Happy New Years! I guess we will have to spend the second half of the day in our rooms because they are short staffed. That is ok though, I got a TV, tablet, and books. They gave me a new roommate yesterday, I got to be on the bottom bunk for a couple days then right back up top. Aunt Jodi and Uncle Greg came to see me the 28th though, it is so great that I can have people come see me as opposed to when I was in the county jail for all those years. I really can’t wait until you get to come see me. They have some games we can play, when my mom and Frankie came we played Scrabble. Can you believe grandma beat us both?!? I have faith that I’ll finally get to talk to you this year, strong faith.
I want to talk to you about appreciation and thankfulness. I see a lot of people with a lot of different attitudes here. I see people complain about everything: they changed the brand of noodles on commissary, they let us out 5minutes late for dayroom, we only got to go to gym two times this week, I should be going home next week but my good time isn’t showing so i gotta wait another week. But I see people with 30 years left on a 60 year sentence smiling and laughing, people making the best of a situation, people being crafty making holders for your tablet so you can carry it around with you, making stocking caps into ear warmers, turning a plastic spork and a shoelace into a remote for a TV, lol.
The point is people can let a bad situation make them miserable. People can find positivity in a bad situation, I find my positivity in counting my blessings and learning how to live as Christ intended. I could spend a week typing things I’m thankful for. I think that maybe you can set there and thank Jesus for some of the things in your life today, watch how fast they add up and appreciate them and Him.
I love you so much pie. Remember God made you special and He loves you very much!
Love,
Daddy
